Rosacea can mimic other skin conditions a proper diagnosis is essential for effective management. Management includes avoiding triggers, medications, tropical creams and in some cases laser or light therapy to reduce redness and visible blood vessels.

Rosacea and Red Skin

Rosacea is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that primarily affects the face. It is characterised by redness, visible blood vessels (telangiectasia), and sometimes acne-like pimples or bumps. Rosacea can also cause burning or stinging sensations on the skin, and, in more severe cases, the skin can thicken and enlarge, a condition known as rhinophyma, which usually affects the nose.

Typically begins around the age of 30 and is more common in fair skin individuals and women. Symptoms are irritated by triggers such as sunlight, extreme temperatures, stress and skin care products. The cause is unknown, but it is believed to be a combination of hereditary and environmental factors.
