Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is a medical procedure that uses laser technology to remove tattoos. It works by breaking down the ink particles in the tattoo into smaller fragments, which are then naturally eliminated by the body’s immune system. Laser tattoo removal is the most effective and commonly used method for removing unwanted tattoos.Laser tattoo removal is generally safe but can cause temporary side effects such as redness, swelling, blistering, or scabbing in the treated area. These side effects are usually mild and subside within a few days to a week. Works best on black and blue tattoos, removing green and yellow can be more challenging.

  • It is essential to avoid sun exposure or solariums for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment and throughout your treatment plan. Any form of exposure can increase your risk of burning, blistering and pigment changes within the skin which includes post-inflammatory hyper, darkening, or hypo, lightening, and pigmentation.

It is also important to avoid the use of fake tans prior to your treatment and ensure the area is free from any artificial pigments, including makeup, on the day of your appointment.

  • Balense Recovery Cream , with its restorative benefits of Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidants, it is a versatile cream that reduces heat stress after laser treatments- Applied to the treatment area at least each morning and night for 7 days after your treatment.

May also apply a protective dressing to the treatment area, to prevent it from rubbing on clothing and becoming irritated. It is for this reason that we highly recommend that loose clothing be worn to your appointments.

Ice the treatment area for 10mins every 30mins for at least 5 hours after your treatment.

Should a blister develop do NOT pop or drain the fluid, simply allow it to heal naturally as any interference could result in scar tissue which can impact your treatment results.

Hot showers, baths, pools, spas, steam, sauna and vigorous exercise must be avoided for at least 48 hours post-treatment, or until the treatment areas no longer feel warm and/or irritated.

Your technician will provide you with detailed post-treatment care guidelines at your consultation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Pico tattoo removal uses a laser that delivers energy to the skin in picosecond pulses—a picosecond is one-trillionth of a second. This ultra-short pulse duration allows for the ink to be shattered with minimal heat transfer to surrounding tissues, which can reduce the risk of damage and result in more effective tattoo removal.

  • The main difference lies in the pulse duration. Traditional lasers, such as Q-switched lasers, deliver energy in nanosecond pulses. Pico lasers use even shorter pulses that create a photoacoustic effect, which effectively breaks up the ink particles into much smaller fragments compared to nanosecond pulses. This often results in faster clearance of the ink, fewer treatment sessions, and a reduced risk of skin damage.

  • Pico lasers are particularly effective on darker ink colors, such as black and blue, and are more effective than traditional lasers at removing resistant colors like green, blue, and purple. They work well on tattoos of various sizes, densities, and depths, and are also beneficial for patients who have previously treated tattoos that have stopped responding to traditional laser treatments.

  • The number of sessions required can vary widely depending on the size, location, depth, and color of the tattoo, as well as the patient's skin type. Typically, Pico laser treatment may require fewer sessions than traditional lasers—often between 4 to 10 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart.

  • While some patients may experience mild discomfort during the procedure, Pico laser tattoo removal is generally well-tolerated. Topical numbing cream can be applied to minimize any discomfort, and most patients report feeling only a slight sensation similar to rubber band snaps.

  • There is minimal downtime associated with Pico laser tattoo removal. Patients can usually resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. Some redness, swelling, or mild blistering may occur temporarily, but these side effects typically subside within a few days.

  • Pico laser technology is effective in targeting a wide range of tattoo colors, including stubborn shades like green and blue. However, certain ink colors and types may respond differently to treatment, and multiple sessions may be necessary to achieve complete removal.

  • During a session, you will wear protective eye shields. The practitioner will then use a handheld device that emits the laser pulses to target the tattoo ink. Each pulse feels like a snap of a rubber band against the skin, accompanied by a sensation of heat. Cooling methods or topical anesthetics may be used to minimize discomfort.

  • Common side effects include temporary redness, swelling, and tenderness at the treatment site. There may also be some blistering and scabbing as part of the normal healing process. Hyperpigmentation and hypopigmentation are less common but possible, particularly in individuals with darker skin tones.

  • After treatment, you'll need to keep the area clean and covered with a sterile dressing. Avoid sun exposure and use a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the area. The recovery process involves care similar to that needed after getting a tattoo. Most normal activities can be resumed immediately, but the treated area should be treated gently and not subjected to abrasive or irritating actions.

  • Pico tattoo removal is generally considered more effective than traditional laser methods, particularly for difficult ink colors and previously treated tattoos. The majority of patients see significant fading and often complete removal of the tattoo over the course of the treatments.

  • The duration of each session depends on the size and complexity of the tattoo being treated. On average, sessions can range from 15 minutes to an hour or more. Your provider will discuss the estimated treatment time during your initial consultation.

It's essential to consult with a qualified and experienced dermatologist or laser specialist to discuss your specific concerns, expectations, and treatment options regarding Pico laser tattoo removal.
